Full Licence

If you are under 17 years of age and want to ride two wheels see our CBT page.

If you wish to go right ahead and book a 3, 4 or 5 day Direct access please call Allan on 07592 163 860.

Entitlement information

You have two choices with a Full Licence.

  • From 17 you can take the category 'A2' test on a 125 cubic capacity (cc) motorcycle.
  • From 21 you can take the category 'A' on a larger cc motorcycle - normally a 500 or 600cc

To gain the full A2 licence you will need to be 17 years old, be trained and carry out the 'module' tests on a motorcycle of 33 brake horse power (bhp) ~ a 125cc, or a larger cc motorcycle which has been restricted to 33bhp. You can then ride any motorcycle as long as it has been restricted to 33bhp. After 2 years the restriction is lifted. Larger cc motorcycles can be restricted to 33bhp... so with an A2 you could get the bike of your dreams and just have it restricted for 2 years!

To gain your full category A licence you will need to be 21 years old and be trained and carry out the 'module' tests on a motorcycle of 46.6 bhp, normally a 500 or 600cc motorcycle. When passed this allows you to ride a motorcycle of any engine size.

What do I need?

Prior to attending training for your full licence you will need to have passed the motorcycle theory test and hold a valid CBT certificate.

Please call 0300 200 1122 to book your theory test at the location of your choice, or book on line. In preparation for your theory test please take time to watch the video and check out the learning resources on our 'Useful Information' page.

If you don't already have a valid CBT cetificate, or if your certificate has expired we can integrate this into your training with the Direct Access package.

Once you have passed the theory test and hold a valid CBT certificate your may start training for your full licence!

See our 'Useful Information' page for prices and further essential reading.

The Test - Module One & Module Two

The new motorcycle practicle test is in two parts. Despite recieving some bad reports we believe it makes for better, safer riders... and if taught properly there is no reason why you should fail. We are proud to have a top class pass rate for BOTH parts of the test and are rightfully admired by examiners at our local test centre. These tests are known as Module One and Module Two.. you must pass Module One before you can go on to complete Module Two.

In brief, the Module One test is carried out on a large circuit at one of the local DSA test centres and involves a number of manoeuvres which test your ability to handle the motorcycle in different situations - such as the 'U' turn, figure of 8 and an avoidance excercise ("swerve and stop"). Once you have passed the Module One test you can then go on to the Module Two.

Module Two consists of around 40 minutes of road riding to test your ability to handle every day situations on the road.

Details of both can be found on our 'Useful Information' page under 'Learning Resources'.
