Compulsory Basic Training
The CBT is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 who are complete beginners, have a desire to ride up to a 125cc motorcycle or scooter, renew their CBT, or as the first step to getting a full licence.
Compulsory Basic Training is carried out at the Lewes site and includes five elements:
- Introductory talk
- Practical on-site training
- Practical on-site riding
- Discussion on practical on-road riding
- Minimum of 2 hours on-road training
The day will begin at 8:30am and can normally be completed in one day, or as part of the Full Licence training.

We have a large safe and secure training ground located on Ham Lane in Lewes. Walking distance from the train station and bus routes, with ample free parking. Click here for map.
You will need to bring:
- Driving Licence - Both plastic & paper parts, or if you have the old style paper licence you will also need photo ID - a passport would be fine.
- Suitable clothing and footwear (Jackets, Helmets, Gloves and Waterproofs are provided).
- A snack - or cash for refreshments!
Once the CBT has been completed it is valid for two years and entitles you to ride a 50cc scooter from the age of 16 or a 125cc motorcycle from the age of 17. You are still required to display L plates and cannot use a motorway or carry a pillion. |
